Safeguarding Sensitive Data in Microsoft 365 Copilot with Purview DLP (GA Release)

The challenge with sensitive data and access to Copilot Microsoft 365 Copilot empowers users with AI-driven assistance across Microsoft 365 apps, but it also raises concerns about accidental oversharing of sensitive information. In response, Microsoft has extended its Purview Data Loss Prevention (DLP) capabilities to Microsoft 365 Copilot, allowing organizations to enforce information protection policies within AI workflows. The DLP for Microsoft 365 Copilot has been in preview for some time, but Microsoft has now announced it is released for GA (General Availability). Among some of the interesting features are new features like alerting and policy simulation. Key details:  Rollout Timeline: As of June 2025, the rollout has begun. It should be completed worldwide by late July 2025. Scope: Initially, DLP for Copilot was available for Copilot Chat scenarios. Coming soon: Copilot Studio Agent Report Template

Copilot Studio Agent Report Template

Microsoft is rolling out a new feature in Viva Insights: the Copilot Studio agent report template. This Microsoft Power BI template will be available in public preview starting mid-April 2025, and provides an aggregated view of Microsoft Copilot Studio agent adoption and impact across the organization over time, with the flexibility to explore details for specific agents. This feature will bring valuable insights into the usage of agents, making it easier for organizations to make informed adjustments and optimize their performance.

The Copilot Studio agent report covers usage and impact metrics for agents built using Copilot Studio that are published outside of Microsoft 365 Copilot or Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat, and excludes agents that enhance Microsoft 365 Copilot and autonomous agents.

Eligibility Criteria

To access this feature, tenants must meet one of the following criteria:
  • Viva Insights licenses: Either a minimum of 50+ assigned Viva Insights licenses or 50+ Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses.
  • Copilot Studio licenses: Tenants must have Copilot Studio licenses (standalone, pay-as-you-go, or bundled with Microsoft 365 Copilot) and have created at least one agent and published it in a Production environment.

Rollout Timeline

The public preview of the Copilot Studio agent report template will begin rolling out in mid-April 2025 and is expected to be completed by late April 2025. Following this, in May 2025, Microsoft will update the message with the plan for the General Availability (Worldwide) of this feature. This update is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 472020

Key Changes

After the rollout, your organization will see several changes:
  • M365 Services Toggle: A new toggle in the Microsoft Power Platform admin center will control the cross-boundary flow of agent performance and usage data for generative AI features from Power Platform to Microsoft 365. This toggle is on by default for non-FedRAMP environments.
  • Data Flow Control: Power Platform admins can turn off the data flow to Viva Insights using Microsoft PowerShell if desired.
  • Cross-Geo Data Sharing: For tenants with Power Platform environments across multiple geos, agent usage data is sent to and stored in the base location of the tenant in Viva Insights. Cross-geo sharing is off by default to avoid unintentional data sharing across geographies.
