It's a new year, so I thought I'd start the year by mentioning three features already released, or soon going to be released. One of the features improves the workflow of sharing files with comments, the other improves the application specific Copilot, and the last feature makes it easer to find the nest available timeslot for a 1:1 meeting. As with all of my other posts, timelines can shift, and the timelines in this post is as written in the Message Center at the time of posting.
AI-Summary experience when sharing files.
With this new feature, copilot intent to help users share files with clearer context in just a few steps. Users will get the capability to generate a concise summary of a file and include it when sharing from the File Explorer share dialog or the OneDrive activity center. This will make it easier to share the context of a file and giving the receiver a faster understanding of what a document or file contains before they open it. General Availability announced to begin rolling out in early January 2026 and complete by late January 2026. Please check the official roadmap ID 527840 for updates. This feature is enabled by default and requires a Microsoft 365 Copilot license.
Copilot Agent-Mode in PowerPoint
Microsoft is releasing Agent Mode in PowerPoint to enable conversational editing while preserving formatting, structure, and branding. Users can guide Copilot to refine layouts, update content, and iterate on slides using enterprise data, helping them to focus on ideas and clarity rather than mechanics. This is an update many have been waiting for, shortening the loop between feedback and polished slides.
This is was initially released to the Frontier program in mid-November 2025 for Windows users in the Insiders Beta Channel. According to the official roadmap id 543421, all other users will have to wait until February for General release. Agent Mode will be available by default for eligible users and requires a Microsoft 365 Copilot license
Automatic rescheduling for 1:1 meetings
Another smart feature for all of those who constantly are looking for an available timeslot for a 1:1 meeting, is the automatic rescheduling for 1:1 meetings and personal events in Microsoft 365. The feature for rebooking conference rooms has been around for a little while, but now a similar feature is coming to meetings. With this feature, users can mark flexible events in the meeting form, set preferences for acceptable times, and let Copilot detect double‑bookings and move those events to better slots. In essence, it is really an enhanced version of the manual "planner" feature in teams. But I have found it to speed up the processes a lot when booking my regular 1:1 meetings. This feature was originally scheduled to be complete by November 2025, then postponed to December 2025. I have seen tenants who do not have the feature yet, so it may have been postponed even further
One last thing:
As GPT-5 was released as the default version just before x-mas, Microsoft added the option to choose between: "Quick Response", "Think deeper" or "Auto" when prompting. Unless I am certain I want the tool to take it's time and "think deeper", I usually leave it with the "Auto" selection. However, I might sometimes not agree with copilot when it chooses to "Think deeper" by itself. Thankfully, I am not the only one seeing this as a potential issue, and I was pleased to see and use the "get a quick answer" option when Copilot went into the "thinking mode".
