Microsoft Purview Sensitivity Labels: Sensitivity label grouping modernization coming this fall (?)

There is a change coming to Microsoft Purview Information Protection that simplifies sensitivity label architecture. The goal is to make label management easier, more scalable, and less rigid for organizations. The new model will only include standalone labels and sublabels. Parent labels will be replaced by label groups, which act as organizational containers. These groups cannot be applied to content and have no actions or scope, but they retain color and priority for visual organization. Hopefully, this change will make it much easier to move labels around and make other changes in production: for example, converting a standalone label into a sublabel or moving sublabels between groups without breaking dependencies.  From my experience, this update solves one of the biggest challenges in large environments: rigid label hierarchies. The new dynamic model gives admins the agility they need to adapt quickly as compliance and business needs evolve. For admins, migration will be quic...

11th MVP Award Rewarded

I am actually on vacation, but as I sit here under the summer sun, toes in the pool and a cold drink within reach, I have been waiting for that email confirming that I’ve been awarded my 11th Microsoft MVP Award! As last year, I am being awarded in both the Teams and Copilot category.

To say I’m humbled would be an understatement. Being part of the global Microsoft MVP community for over a decade now has been an incredible journey, filled with learning, sharing, speaking, and connecting with passionate technologists from every corner of the world.

What is the Microsoft MVP Award?

The Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) award is given to technology experts who share their knowledge and real-world expertise with communities. With fewer than 4,000 MVPs worldwide, it’s an honor to be part of such a vibrant and dedicated group. MVPs contribute through speaking engagements, writing, open-source contributions, and helping others online and offline. You can learn more about the program here.

Thank You

This recognition wouldn’t be possible without the people and organizations who support and inspire me every day.

  • Thank you to the PG (Product Groups) teams at Microsoft for welcoming feedback, opening doors to collaboration, and always pushing the envelope with innovation.
  • Thank you to my employer, Innofactor, for making it possible for me to invest time in community work, tech talks, and content creation, and for truly living the values of sharing and growth.

From late-night Teams messages to on-stage presentations and coffee-fueled blog writing sessions, this journey continues to energize and challenge me.

Looking ahead: MVP-Dagen this fall

I’m especially excited about hosting MVP-Dagen again this autumn. This event has become a highlight of the year for me. Where Norwegian MVPs come together to share insights, inspire others, and have some good laughs along the way. The community spirit and energy at MVP-Dagen is unmatched, and I can’t wait to help make it even better this year.

For now, I’m going to soak up a bit more sunshine, enjoy some well-deserved time off with my loved ones, and recharge for another year of tech, community, and innovation.

Thanks again to everyone who’s been part of the ride so far. Let’s keep building and sharing together.
