Microsoft has announced a set of upcoming enhancements that continue to expand the value of Copilot across Microsoft 365. These updates introduce new ways for users to manage collaboration and meeting experiences with less context switching and more control. As always, timelines may shift as development progresses. I have provided the official reference IDs and documentation links for your convenience.
Schedule meetings directly from Copilot Chat
The first update introduces a new capability that allows users to schedule meetings directly from Copilot chat. This feature reached general availability worldwide with rollout completed by late January 2026. It enables users to find available times, book rooms, draft agendas, and send invitations entirely within the chat experience, reducing the need to move between applications and helping streamline everyday workflow. The feature is on by default, requires no administrator configuration, and respects all existing calendar and meeting policies. Current availability supports English‑language queries only, with localization targeted for Q2.NOTE: There are certain limitations to the number of items a Copilot query can fetch. In my experience the feature works best when you have a small group of participants (1-4), and you ask for a specific day or date. If the group is too big, or the timespan is to great, Copilot will simply fail the task, and instead of telling you it's limitations it suggests times that may be unavailable fore some.
I have not run into limitations when trying to schedule 1:1 or 1:2, but once I start testing with 3 or more participants, it can be a bit tricky.
Turn Copilot of for everyone in a meeting
Another enhancement focuses on user control of Copilot during Microsoft Teams meetings. This feature allows participants to turn off Copilot when it is active in a meeting. When the control is used, recording, transcription, and Facilitator—if active—are also turned off, ensuring no spoken or shared content is processed during that period. After the meeting ends, Copilot regains access to any recordings or transcripts generated while it was active. An initial targeted release has already completed for a limited set of tenants, while a broader general availability rollout will come as part of roadmap item 501107. This capability is enabled by default for users and introduces an additional layer of flexibility around how generative AI operates during sensitive meeting moments.
