The updates in this post are centered around two changes to the Microsoft 365 Copilot mobile app. One introduces a new way to capture and summarize conversations directly from your phone, while the other simplifies how content is created by bringing more of the experience into Copilot Chat. Together, these changes reflect Microsoft's continued push toward a more streamlined, Copilot-first mobile experience.
Capture and summarize conversations with Record in Microsoft 365 Copilot mobile
Microsoft is introducing Record in the Microsoft 365 Copilot mobile app, allowing users to record in-person conversations or voice notes and receive an AI-generated transcript and summary in Copilot Chat when the recording ends. Available on iOS and Android for users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license, the feature helps capture information on the go and turn spoken content into searchable, actionable insights.
Recordings can be up to 120 minutes long and continue even when the app runs in the background. Once a recording ends, the audio file is stored in the user's OneDrive for Business, where the recording, transcript, and summary inherit existing permissions, retention policies, sensitivity labels, Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies, eDiscovery controls, and other governance settings. The feature is enabled by default, although organizations can disable it through an Intune App Configuration Policy if required.
Frontier Preview begins in late July 2026, with General Availability expected between late August and late September 2026. This update is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 498640. As always, Microsoft timelines may change.
Copilot mobile moves content creation into chat
Microsoft is simplifying content creation in the Microsoft 365 Copilot app for iOS and Android by removing the standalone Create experience. The change reflects how many users already work today, creating documents, presentations, images, and other content directly through Copilot Chat using natural-language prompts. By consolidating content creation into a single experience, Microsoft aims to deliver a more streamlined, Copilot-first mobile experience.
After the update, users will continue to create content by prompting Copilot in Chat, but the dedicated Create entry point will no longer appear in the mobile app. Organizations that rely on Brand Kits should note that the capability remains available in Microsoft 365 Copilot on the web and desktop, where administrators and designated brand managers can continue to manage and publish organizational branding assets. No new administrative controls or configuration changes are associated with this update.
Rollout is expected to begin in early August 2026 and complete by mid-September 2026 for commercial customers, with rollout to GCC, GCC High, and DoD environments starting later in August. As always, Microsoft timelines may change.

That wraps up the fifth installment of this summer roundup series. While these updates may appear small on the surface, they provide a good indication of where Microsoft is taking the mobile Copilot experience. The focus is increasingly on reducing friction, capturing information wherever work happens, and making Copilot Chat the central hub for creating and interacting with content.
As adoption of Microsoft 365 Copilot continues to grow, I expect we'll see even more capabilities arrive on mobile devices in the coming months.
