Microsoft is rolling out two new Microsoft 365 Copilot enhancements: the ability to use Outlook emails as references in Copilot Notebooks and a built-in Copilot drafting experience in Outlook. Both features are enabled by default for licensed users and are currently rolling out worldwide.
Outlook emails can now be used as references in Microsoft 365 Copilot Notebooks
Microsoft has introduced the ability to add Outlook emails as reference sources in Microsoft 365 Copilot Notebooks. This allows users to ground Copilot responses in email conversations, decisions, and context alongside files and other notebook content, helping generate more relevant summaries, briefs, and presentations.
Users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license and access to Copilot Notebooks can add emails through the Add reference experience. Copilot can use these emails together with other notebook sources when generating responses. Notebooks support up to 300 total reference sources, including emails. Email content is captured when added and does not update if the original conversation changes. Email attachments are not currently supported.
General availability began rolling out worldwide in mid-July 2026 and is currently in progress. For the latest rollout status, see Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 564910

Copilot email drafting now integrated directly into Outlook
Microsoft has integrated Microsoft 365 Copilot directly into the Outlook compose experience, allowing licensed users to draft new emails, edit existing drafts, and refine, expand, or rewrite content in real time. The new side-by-side drafting experience helps users create emails more efficiently while maintaining full control over the final message.
General availability began rolling out worldwide in mid-July 2026 and is expected to complete by early August 2026. The rollout initially covers Outlook on the web, new Outlook for Windows, and Outlook mobile. Support for Outlook for Mac is expected after the initial rollout, while support for classic Outlook for Windows is planned later in 2026. For the latest rollout status, see Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 564605
